Why You Should Solo Travel at Least Once
Solo travel- Han Solo’s next movie or the title of your next adventure.
This year I took my first solo trip. I went to Liverpool to learn and to explore the city. Since the trip, I have been thinking of all the positive aspects of travelling alone. Here are a few:
If you travel alone you can make your schedule as flexible as you want, make any plans you want as you don’t have to accommodate other people’s needs. You can skip the activities that you would normally do for someone else’s enjoyment. It’s all about you after all.
Because your travelling alone you can’t rely on other people’s skills. You can’t rely on others to buy breakfast, or distract you when your bored, you will have to turn to the locals, whether it’s for companionship or not.
As a solo traveller you can be deemed more approachable, than if you where for example with a partner or friend, if you travel with others it’s likely that you only talk to them and then outsiders might not want to impose. However if you’re by yourself, it’s often easier for someone else to strike up a conversation with you (or vice versa).
Travelling solo helps build confidence and if you travel alone you will surely need to ask strangers questions by yourself.
A great way to start making friends is to be confident and say yes if you are invited out. If someone at work asks you to come out with the team for a drink, just say yes. It is important to be safe and tell someone if you are going out alone with someone you do not know very well. But being brave and going out with new people at work is a great way to start making friends. They may not all be people you become close with but it is a great starting point.
You can see the importance of “me time” only after you have travelled somewhere alone. You will start appreciating your own company much more and enjoying the time you spend on your own. Being alone on the road is also a great way to connect with your higher self spiritually and enhance your relationship with yourself.
When travelling alone you should always be careful and stay aware of your surroundings. You should always let someone know where you are going, leave a note in your room with information of when you expect to be back and where you went. Because God forbid if the worst happens, it could make a big difference.
There are more points that are important when travelling alone but to me these are the 5 most important ones.
